Education and awareness-raising project for women and young women living in the rural areas of Thiès and Diourbel, Senegal, on the issues of sexually transmitted diseases.
In order to improve the sexual and reproductive health of women in rural areas by reducing cases of cervical cancer, reducing sexually transmitted infections and improving the knowledge of rural populations on these issues, the Association Rurale de Lutte Contre le Sida (ARLS), with the support of the AMI Foundation, implements the Project for the Promotion of Sexual and Reproductive Health of Rural Women and Young Women in 17 communities in the regions of Thiés and Dioubel, Senegal.
Concerning the reduction of the 6800 new cases of cervical cancer that are diagnosed each year in Senegal, this project will carry out a series of awareness actions in the various communities using the most diverse communication tools, such as theater, lectures, workshops and radio programs. Cervical cancer screenings will also be conducted on 200 women from the project intervention zones. At the end of the 12 months of implementation of this project, it is expected that the number of cases diagnosed with this disease will be decreased and that the populations are more informed and sensitized to this problem.
