This project intends to support the acquisition of mattresses for the S. João de Deus Mental Health Center “Withuwa wa Eroho”.

The S. João de Deus Mental Health Center “Withuwa wa Eroho” was inaugurated on November 27, 2004, in Nampula. This center provides care in the area of Psychiatry and Mental Health, providing three types of responses: hospitalization (677 in 2017), external consultation (16,586 in 2017) and community intervention (psychosocial reinsertion and home visits, 68 in 2017).

Regarding hospitalization, hospital mattresses are a basic equipment for the comfort and well-being of hospitalized patients, and it is also essential for their treatment. However, these suffer from rapid deterioration, which implies periodic replacement, which at present cannot be assured by the Ministry of Health (MISAU), given its lack of resources.

In this project, we aim to support the acquisition of 70 sponge mattresses lined with clinical synthetic leather, without openings, in order to avoid their deterioration and thus contribute to a better hygiene and comfort, and also to minimum standards of care given to patients.
